Cluj/ Pet-Friendly Beaches

Pet-Friendly Beaches lists the beaches and stretches of coast or lakeshore across Romania where dogs are allowed, either all the time or during certain parts of the year. In practice, most beaches are animal-friendly out of season and early in the morning, when they are empty, and more restrictive at the height of summer. Some resorts have dedicated, signposted sections where access with dogs is allowed without conditions.

An owner looks for a pet-friendly beach for a seaside holiday with the dog along, for a weekend outing to a lake, or so that a dog that likes water can swim and run on the sand safely. The sea and the lake are new environments for many dogs, with waves, salt and a lot of open space, so the first outing is worth doing calmly, away from the crowds, so the animal gains confidence gradually.

When you choose a beach, check whether access with dogs is allowed in the period you are going and on which section, whether a lead is required, whether there is shade and fresh water nearby for rinsing and drinking, and how strong the current is where the dog would go into the water. Watch what it swallows off the sand and rinse the coat of salt and sand after a swim, otherwise irritation develops.

Do not let the dog drink sea or lake water, offer fresh water often, take shade breaks even if it does not seem tired, and check hot sand with your hand before going in the middle of the day, because pads burn easily. Bring fresh water, a towel, bags and a long lead for the first outings.

Use this directory to find pet-friendly beaches in the area you are travelling to, compare seasonal rules and reviews, and open each beach's page for its location on the map before setting off. Plan the first outing for early morning, when the beach is empty and calmer, so you can see how the dog reacts to the waves and the open space.
