Ask for an estimate that includes the distance, waiting time and any stops, and a contract with liability in case of an incident.

Get the animal used to the carrier in advance by leaving it open at home with a familiar blanket, do not feed it heavily just before leaving, and put a label with your name and a phone number on the carrier. For long journeys, discuss with the vet whether anything is needed for travel sickness.
