Dog Walking

Dog Walking covers dog-walking services, either individual or in small groups, for owners who work long hours or cannot provide the daily exercise their dog needs every day. A good walk means real time spent walking and sniffing, not just a quick loop outside the building, adapted to the dog's age, size and energy, with care in extreme temperatures and traffic.

An owner turns to a dog walker when they have long hours at the office, when recovering from an injury, when they have a young, energetic dog that becomes destructive without exercise, or when they simply want the animal to have a quality outing in the middle of the day. For dogs that pull on the lead or react to other dogs, a walker with some handling experience, not just goodwill, is useful.

When you choose a dog walker, ask how many dogs they walk at once and whether they mix dogs that do not know each other, what route and duration they propose, how they secure the dog, a harness and a double lead are a plus, what they do in heat or frost, and how they let you know the walk has taken place, usually with a message showing the location and a photo. Check whether they have a simple contract, keys handed over formally and a plan for emergencies.

Start with a trial walk where you come along too, to see how they handle your dog. Leave instructions about commands, corners to avoid and any allergies, and a backup contact.

In hot weather, a good walk means cool hours, shade, water and grass routes rather than baking asphalt; in frost, shorter and more frequent walks. Ask the walker how they adapt the schedule to the weather and what they do if your dog refuses to walk or is frightened by something on the route.
